Part 1. Getting Started

To learn any new application, it's a good idea to have some basic knowledge of how to start the application, what appears onscreen, how to ask for help, and how to find files in the application. If you are new to Excel, read this part so that you get a good understanding of these basic skills. If you have used Excel before, you might want to skim through this part to see what's new.

A worksheet is a grid of columns and rows. The intersection of any column and row is called a cell. Each cell in a worksheet has a unique cell reference, the designation formed by combining the row and column headings. For example, A8 refers to the cell at the intersection of column A and row 8.
