What's New in Word 2003

What a difference a decade makes! Ten years ago, the MS-DOS version of WordPerfect was the word processing program in the vast majority of offices around the world. Microsoft's upstart Word for Windows was making inroads, but convincing WordPerfect diehards to convert meant that Word had to flawlessly handle WordPerfect files and provide plenty of online help for people who had memorized every esoteric keyboard shortcut in the WordPerfect interface.


Today, Microsoft Word is the top dog in word processing, and Word 2003 reflects that reality. Competitors, including WordPerfect for Windows and OpenOffice, now concentrate on compatibility with Word's native format, and word-processing mavens now measure success by how many of Word's esoteric keyboard shortcuts they've memorized.
