Troubleshooting

The Right Way to Rename an HTML Document

I needed to rename a Web page that I created using Word. Using Windows Explorer, I renamed the page and the folder containing linked graphics; now, I see only red Xs where the pictures should be. What did I do wrong?

When you saved your document, links to the graphics were embedded in the document using the folder name as it existed at that time. When you open the file, it's looking for the folder with its original name. The best way to rename a file saved as a Web page is to reopen it in the Office program that created it. Save it under the new name, and then open Windows Explorer and delete the old file. When you delete the old file, Windows should also delete its matching folder.
