What's New in Office 2003

The fundamental tool for shifting data from one program to another, the Windows Clipboard, is as old as Windows itself. In recent years, Microsoft has tried to enhance the capabilities of the venerable Clipboard. The result—a Clipboard task pane that holds up to 24 items—is a mixed success at best. In this chapter, we'll show you what's new in the Office 2003 Clipboard.


The second most popular technique for moving and copying data is dragging it from place to place with the mouse. Office 2003 doesn't add any new mouse tricks, but it does make the process of arranging program windows on the screen much easier than before. Look for a new choice on the Window menu, Compare Side By Side, which automatically arranges two open documents next to one another so that you can compare their contents and drag data between them easily.
