Chapter 40. Publisher for Professionals > Merging Data into a Publication

Merging Data into a Publication

As with Microsoft Word, you can merge data from external data sources into a Publisher document. This capability is useful, for example, when creating an invitation or postcard and where you want to personalize the publication for individual recipients. Publisher also includes a new Catalog merge tool for creating catalogs using a product database or other external data source.

Publisher can use data sources from Microsoft Access, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft FoxPro, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft SQL 6.x, 7.0, and 2000, Microsoft Word tables and merge data documents, Microsoft Works, dBASE 3, ASCII, and Oracle. Many of the procedures for creating a merged publication are similar to those in Word.
