Secrets of the Office Masters: Expert Strategies for Outlook Rules

Outlook rules follow a rigid set of logical standards. Knowing how rules work can help you troubleshoot problems:

  • When rules contain multiple conditions, they are always treated as logical AND statements: The subject contains “budget” AND the sender is “Bill Green.” You must create separate rules to apply OR logic.

  • Within a condition, items you specify are always treated as though they are joined with a logical OR: The sender is “Woody Leonhard” or “Ed Bott” or “Bill Green.”
