Secrets of the Office Masters: Custom Dialog Boxes in VBA

Custom dialog boxes in VBA can successfully mimic any dialog boxes you've ever seen in Windows.

In the dialog box in Figure 43.20, you see the familiar file tabs that let you flip back and forth between multiple dialog box divisions—Orders and Stores, in this example. There's nothing particularly magical about them—you can draw them yourself, or steal them from, for example, the Support.dot file that's supplied with Office. (Although you can't legally appropriate a copyrighted picture or duplicate a copyrighted program, dialog box layouts are fair game.) In this example, we exported the dialog box from Support.dot to a file and then imported that file into the appropriate template before doing any edits (you'll find the Import and Export choices on the File menu in the Visual Basic Editor).
