Part: VIII Appendixes > Customizing Your Office Installation

Customizing Your Office Installation

When you select the Typical Install or Upgrade options to install Office 2003, Setup uses the following default options:

  • Program files go in the Microsoft Office Subfolder in the folder that the %programfiles% variable points to. (On most systems, this is C:\Program Files.) In Office 2003, you can specify a different location, although we strongly recommend using the default location.

  • Setup removes your previous Office installation (if any) and replaces all installed programs. In the process, it migrates your personal settings and preferences to Office 2003.

  • Setup installs a standard set of programs and features. In the case of an upgrade, it automatically replaces all previously installed components with new versions, even if they're not normally part of the Typical Install.
