Applying and Modifying Designs

PowerPoint designs control the appearance of a presentation. By letting you save, modify, and reuse designs—including dozens of Microsoft-supplied samples—PowerPoint makes it easy to create presentations that are visually appealing and consistent. Consistency is especially important when you want a group of presenters from the same organization to share a common look.

Don't be intimidated by the presentation designs included with PowerPoint. In previous editions of this book, we criticized the occasionally amateurish and inconsistent designs included with PowerPoint. In PowerPoint 2003, the selection of designs is much more professional. But that doesn't mean you have to use one of these bundled designs. Although they follow generally accepted design principles, they're not sacrosanct.
