Code-Writing Tips

There are some general rules to follow when writing code that make it easier to read and understand. The Editor has some options that you can use to your advantage in this area.

Using the Auto List Members and Auto Quick Info

As you type statements in the Editor, you might notice a pop-up list box will appear after you type an object name followed by a period. This is called the List Members list (see Figure 32.10). It normally displays a list of methods and properties appropriate for the object that preceded the period. This list can help you complete the VBA statement you’re typing. Select a method or property from the list, using the mouse or by typing the first few letters of the method or property name. Press the next appropriate character (like a space, a period, or the Enter key) to have the Editor place the selection in your statement.
