Reporting on Classes

Many reports support reporting by classes, but following are some reports with which breakdowns by class might be especially useful:

  • Profit and loss statements— From the Reports menu on your main QuickBooks screen (as opposed to the Reports button in your Class List window), choose Company & Financial, and then choose from the various profit and loss reports that are listed. When a report is onscreen, it can be filtered to show only the results of a particular class or group of classes. QuickBooks has done part of this job for you already with one of its standard reports. If you choose Reports, Company & Financial, Profit & Loss, By Class, your company profit and loss statement appears with a separate column for each class.

→ To find guidance on filtering reports by classes, and to find information about other filtering techniques, seeApplying Filters,” p. 415.

  • Sales reports— From the Reports menu, choose Sales, and then choose from the list that appears. You can request that any sales report be filtered by class, thus showing sales for only one class or for a selected group of classes.

Are classes not appearing on your reports? See “Indicating Classes” in the “Troubleshooting” section at the end of this chapter.

  • Purchase reports— From the Reports menu, choose Purchases, and then choose from the list that appears. If you are interested in displaying purchase information by class, choose a purchase report and filter the report for a particular class or group of classes.
