Troubleshooting

Recognizing a CD-ROM

My computer does not automatically recognize a CD-ROM when it is inserted in the drive.

The CD-ROM notification feature might be turned off. To turn on CD-ROM notification (or turn it off if you don’t want to use this feature), click the Start button on your Windows taskbar. Then choose Settings, Control Panel, and double-click on the System icon. Choose the Device Manager tab, and click the plus sign next to CD-ROM. Click on your CD-ROM, and then click the Properties button. Click the Settings tab, and then check (or uncheck, if you are turning off this feature) the box labeled Auto Insert Notification. Click OK to save your settings and exit the box. Click OK again to close the System Properties box. By the way, although this doesn’t apply to your QuickBooks CD, you might find that some older CD-ROMs do not automatically turn on, even when this notification is enabled.
