Chapter 1. QuickBooks Overview > QuickBooks and QuickBooks Pro

QuickBooks and QuickBooks Pro

You may be wondering which program you should purchase, QuickBooks or QuickBooks Pro? Both programs offer nearly the same features. The following features are unique to QuickBooks Pro:

  • Time tracking— Use timesheets right on your computer to enter employee time and have it automatically flow to the QuickBooks payroll features. You can also associate time with jobs automatically, and bill that time on your invoices. Create reports to help analyze how employees use their time by displaying employee time organized by job and type of activity.

  • Estimates and bids— Use QuickBooks Pro to keep track of bids you make on jobs, to compare actual job costs to your estimates, to revise estimates as the job progresses, and to prepare various reports incorporating job estimates. You can create invoices from your estimates by billing for the entire estimate, billing for particular items from the estimate, or by using a percentage-of-completion method.

  • Advanced job costing— Produce reports that display job progress and profitability, and classify the information on these reports by job, by type of service you provide, or by type of item you sell.

  • Multiuser environment— Up to five users can work with your QuickBooks Pro company file simultaneously. Levels of password protection are available so that each user can have rights to various parts of the file.
