Reports About Inventory

QuickBooks provides several standard inventory reports with which you can obtain information about your inventory. Find out how many items you have on hand and what your inventory is worth by choosing from the following inventory reports:

  • Inventory Valuation Summary— This report shows the worth of each item in your inventory, based on the average cost method. The report also shows what percentage of the total inventory each item accounts for, what the items retail for, and what percentage of the total retail value each item accounts for. Open the Reports menu, and choose Inventory, Inventory Valuation Summary to display this report.

    Note

The option to choose inventory reports is not visible on your Reports menu if you have not activated the Inventory feature for your company. To activate Inventory, open the Edit menu and choose Preferences. Click the Purchases & Vendors icon at the left of the window. On the Company Preferences tab, click the Inventory and purchase orders are active box.

  • Inventory Valuation Detail— This report takes the Inventory Valuation Summary one step further and shows you the complete details of every inventory transaction (each purchase and each sale) for the requested period of time. Open the Reports menu, and choose Inventory, Inventory Valuation Detail to display this report.

  • Inventory Stock Status by Item— This report lists each item in your inventory and tells you how many are currently in stock, how many are on order, and when you can expect to receive the orders. The report also calculates the average sales of each item on a per-week basis. Open the Reports menu, and choose Inventory, Inventory Stock Status by Item to display this report.

  • Inventory Stock Status by Vendor— This report displays the same information as the Stock Status by Item report, but the items are grouped by vendor so that you can quickly find out how many items are on order from a particular vendor, and which inventory items get ordered from each vendor. Open the Reports menu, and choose Inventory, Inventory Stock Status by Vendor to display this report.

  • Item Price List— Prepare a report that shows the price of each item in your inventory as well as all your company’s other items. Open the Reports menu and choose List, Item Price List to display the report. To display a price list of only inventory items, click the Modify Report button, click the Filters tab, choose Item in the Filter box at the left, and then select All Inventory Items as the Item filter. Click OK to close the Modify Reports window and display the filtered report.
