Chapter 5. Going Online with QuickBooks > Sending an Online Message

Sending an Online Message

When you send an online message to your bank, the message appears as an e-mail on your online account manager’s computer. To increase the odds that your message gets the attention it deserves, do the following:

  • Send your message separately from your other transactions (fund transfers and bill payments). That way it appears as a separate item on your bank’s list of incoming messages and transactions. Someone is more apt to see what is written in the Subject field, and perhaps give the message immediate attention.

  • The Subject field is the first thing your online account manager sees when he views your message. Therefore, use the Subject field to your advantage, quickly summarizing the message contents and emphasizing its urgency.

  • Keep in mind that, at times, an e-mail is no substitute for a phone call. Do not assume that just because you’ve sent an e-mail, a request has been acted upon. At least until you get acquainted with how your bank responds to e-mail, and until you’ve become a familiar name to your online banking people, you might have to follow up your initial inquiries with an old-fashioned trip to the phone.
