Tax-Exempt Sales

Sometimes you sell items that are subject to tax, but you sell them to customers who are exempt from paying sales tax. It is important that you check with your state taxing authority regarding the rules for dealing with tax-exempt customers.

In general, before you can permit a tax-exempt sale, you must request a tax resale number from the customer and keep that number on file. The customer will probably be happy to supply you with this number.
