Working with Tables 249 All other table features are options. For example, you can change the appearance of the lines that WordPerfect uses to separate table cells, or you can omit them altogether. You can change text justification, rotate or skew text, and add text attributes. You can adjust the width and height of any column or row. You can even create formulas to calculate numeric information. Using WordPerfect's table formatting options, you can create any kind of table--from simple lists to complex invoices, from schedules to calendars, from programs to scripts, and more (see Figure 10.2). Figure 10.2. With WordPerfect's Table feature, you can even create complex forms, such as invoices. Designing, creating, and modifying a table is a visual and artistic venture. Don't be afraid to experi- ment, and don't be upset if the results are not quite what you expected. Simply try again. Planning Tables Before you actually create a table, you can save a great deal of time by doing some preliminary planning. First, ask yourself what you want to accomplish with your table. Do you merely want to present straightforward information more clearly, or do you want to design a more complex, heavily formatted form? Next, determine the approximate number of rows and columns you want. You can have up to 64 columns and 32,767 rows (or 2,097,088 cells), although it's unlikely you'll ever use that many. You do not need to know the exact number of rows or columns because you can add or insert them while you work with your table. Knowing this information in advance, however--especially the number of columns--can make creating, modifying, and using your table much easier. You can also benefit from determining and selecting the font style and size you want to use before you begin. Again, this is not critical because you can change fonts as you work with your table. Finally, consider the number and placement of tables. You might need to place two tables of dis- similar structure one after the other, rather than try to create just one table. Also, you might need to place two tables beside each other, in which case you might want to use columns or graphics boxes.
