Chapter 4. Managing Your Files and Folders > Using Document Summaries

Using Document Summaries

One of the lesser-known, but incredibly powerful, file management features is the document summary. Some people don’t even know it exists, but for those of us who depend on full-text search and retrieval techniques—we can’t live without it. Document summary information can be viewed from the file management dialog boxes, so you can learn a lot about a file without opening it first.

Document summaries go hand-in-hand with QuickFinder because you can narrow a search from the entire document to the document summary. This not only speeds up the process, it also enables you to search for information that isn’t included in the document text, such as an author’s name, a client’s account number, and so on. The next section discusses searching for files with WordPerfect’s QuickFinder.
