Introducing Task Panes

One of the biggest changes to the PowerPoint environment (and all the Microsoft Office XP member applications, such as Word 2002, Excel 2002, and Access 2002) is the introduction of the Office task pane. The task pane is a special pane that appears on the right side of the PowerPoint application window. It is used to provide access to many PowerPoint features that formerly were controlled using dialog boxes.

For example, when you want to add slides to a presentation or change the layout of a slide already in the presentation, you will use the Slide Layout task pane. This task pane appears in Figure 1.1. Creating new slides is discussed in Lesson 6, "Inserting, Deleting, and Copying Slides."
