Understanding the Word Environment

When you start the Word program, the Word application window opens (see Figure 2.2). You create your documents in the Word window. The Word window also provides items that help you navigate and operate the application itself.

Tip

Control the View If your view differs from the view shown in Figure 2.2 (the Normal view), or if you don't see all the Word window elements shown in that figure (particularly the ruler), you can easily change your view. Select View, then choose the menu selection (such as Normal or Ruler) that matches your view to the figure.
