Lesson 1. What's New in Excel 2002 > Introducing Task Panes

Introducing Task Panes

One of the biggest changes to the Excel environment (and all the Microsoft Office XP suite applications, such as Word 2002, Access 2002, and PowerPoint 2002) is the introduction of the Office task pane. The task pane is a special pane that appears on the right side of the Excel application window when you use certain Excel features (features that formerly were controlled using dialog boxes).

For example, when you start a new Excel workbook, the New Workbook task pane appears (see Figure 1.1). This task pane makes it easy for you to start a new blank workbook or create a workbook using one of the spreadsheet templates provided by Excel.
