Creating an FTP Location

When you save your Excel workbook or worksheet for the Web, you can save the newly created HTML file directly to your Web site or to a location on your computer's hard drive. If you save the file to your hard drive, you can move it to the Web site later using Windows Explorer. If you are going to save the file directly to your Web site—or rather, to the Web server that hosts your Web site (on 'the Internet or your company's intranet)—you will need to create an FTP location. FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol, and it serves as a method of moving files from one computer to another (such as your Web server) on the Internet.

Plain English

FTP Short for File Transfer Protocol, FTP is used to move files from computer to computer on the Internet. Creating an FTP location on your computer enables you to save Web-ready content, such as Excel files, directly to your Web server.
