Viewing Fields

Rarely do you see the fields themselves in your document. You typically see the information the fields find or create. Sometimes, however, you do want to see the underlying field codes. For example, you might want to edit a field so that it presents different information, or presents it in a different format. Or maybe a field isn't behaving the way you expect, and you want to troubleshoot it.

To view a field code, click inside it and press Shift+F9. To view all the field codes in your document, press Ctrl+A to select your entire document and then press Shift+F9, the keyboard shortcut that toggles the display of field codes on and off. Or choose Edit, Select All; then right-click on a field and choose Toggle Field Codes from the shortcut menu.
