Troubleshooting

Security

Take care to remember a password you assign to a Personal Folders file because, without the correct password, you won't have access to folders within the file. If you do forget a password, the only thing you can do is remove the Personal Folders file from the Folder List and then delete the corresponding Windows file. Subsequently, you can create a new Personal Folders file, but the Outlook items in the original file are permanently lost.

It's important to protect your computer from viruses, not only to protect your own computer, but also not to unwittingly become a source of sending viruses to other people. There's no perfect way to protect your computer from viruses, so you must adopt a compromise. At one extreme, you could refuse to allow anything to be copied to your hard drive, but that's not practical because you wouldn't have anything for your computer to use. At the other extreme, you could load or download whatever's available, but that virtually guarantees virus problems. Outlook offers some help in choosing which attachments you can open.
