Chapter 4. Sending Messages > Sending a Message

Sending a Message

Sending a message is a two-step process. First, Outlook sends a message from the Message form to your Outbox. Then, Outlook sends the message from your Outbox to your mail server, keeping a copy of the message in your Sent Items folder.

Note

You can set up Outlook so that it attempts to send messages to your mail server immediately after you click Send in the Message form's Standard toolbar. To do this, with any Information viewer displayed, select Tools, Options, and select the Options dialog box's Mail Setup tab. Check Send Messages Immediately When Connected. If Outlook is already connected to the server, it immediately sends the message to the server. Otherwise, Outlook sends the message as soon as a connection to the server becomes available.
