What Are Symbols For?

Outlook uses symbols to provide information about items. For example, a symbol that looks like a closed envelope indicates a message item is unread, whereas a symbol that looks like an open envelope indicates a message has been read.

The tables in this appendix list the symbols most frequently used with Outlook's items.
