Part VIII: Appendixes > Backing Up Outlook

Backing Up Outlook

A complete backup of Outlook consists of more than just making a copy of your Personal Folders. In addition to copying the .PST files you use, you also need to copy the other files listed previously in this appendix. Copying the recommended files enables you to retain the customizations that have been performed to make Outlook look and work the way you want. Making an export copy of the registry keys listed previously preserves the Outlook settings and customizations that are not kept in separate files.

To learn more about backing up Outlook, look in the Microsoft Knowledge Base at articles Q195719 and Q196492. These articles were written for Outlook 2000, but most of the information applies to Outlook 2002. In addition, Knowledge Base articles specifically written for Outlook 10 will be available soon. More information on backing up Outlook is available at http://www.slipstick.com/config/backup.htm.
