Part VIII: Appendixes > Where Outlook Saves Information

Where Outlook Saves Information

Outlook saves configuration information and Outlook items in many places and files. The data you see in Outlook, such as e-mail, appointments, tasks, reminders, and so on, are saved in a Personal Folders file with a .PST extension. This file can have any name, but most often it has the same name as the Outlook profile you use. Some configuration and customization information is kept in separate files with specific file extensions, and some is kept in the Windows registry. This appendix provides details about where this information is stored.

Information also is available in the Office Resource Kit about all the files and registry keys that Outlook uses. This information is in the form of Excel workbook files.
