Troubleshooting

Folders

Sometimes Outlook's folders get corrupted and can't be opened. When that happens, you often can restore your Personal Folders file by using the Inbox Repair Tool—the file's name is Scanpst.exe. The tool is automatically installed on your computer when you install Office XP. Despite the tool's name, it examines your Personal Folders file's structure and item headers and attempts to recover all folders and items. The Inbox Repair Tool doesn't repair folders in the Exchange store.

To run the Inbox Repair Tool, close Outlook. Then click Start in the Windows taskbar, move the pointer onto Programs, move the pointer onto Accessories, move the pointer onto System Tools, and select Inbox Repair Tool.
