Importing Data from a Database

Importing information from a database involves copying data from specific database fields into specific Outlook fields. Outlook fields have specific names, as listed in Appendix B, "Outlook's Files, Folders, Fields, and Registry Keys." The database you're importing from often has fields with different names, usually names assigned by the person who created the database. There's no automatic way by which Outlook can know the name of the fields in the database that should be imported into Outlook's fields. For that reason, you must use a process known as Field Mapping to define the relationships between Outlook fields and database fields. The process of field mapping is described in the following procedure, which uses importing contact information from an Access database as an example.
