Compacting Your Personal Folders File

After you've deleted items from the Deleted Items folder in your Personal Folders file, Outlook doesn't release the space those items previously occupied. To get the space back, you must compact your Personal Folders file.

To see how much space is recovered by compacting your Personal Folders file, you can find out its size before and after compacting. You don't have to do that, but doing so gives you a useful insight into the disk space Outlook uses.
