Chapter 19. Compacting Folders and Archi... > Managing Your Outlook Store

Managing Your Outlook Store

The preceding sections of this chapter contain information about what Outlook 2002 inherited from previous Outlook versions. New in Outlook 2002 is the Tools menu command Mailbox Cleanup.

The Microsoft people responsible for Outlook don't always, in my opinion, pay sufficient attention to the terminology they use. If you're an experienced Exchange user, you're probably familiar with thinking of your mailbox as the store within Exchange Server that contains, not only your mail items but also all the items you create and access by way of Outlook—items in your Calendar, Contacts, Tasks, Notes, and Deleted Items folders. If you're a person who uses Outlook as a personal information manager and also to send and receive Internet e-mail, you might not immediately realize that Microsoft uses the term Mailbox to refer to your entire Personal Folders file.
