Chapter 10. Expert E-mail Management > Creating and Sending Messages

Creating and Sending Messages

After successfully addressing a message, composing a message is a reasonably straightforward process. If you've chosen Plain Text format, enter text and add attachments (you can drag any file from an Explorer window into the message window to attach it, or choose Insert, File to choose items from a dialog box). For Rich Text messages, you can also use font and paragraph formatting. HTML messages give you the option to add pictures, background colors and graphics, and other Web-style formatting. Depending on the message type you've selected, you can also choose several advanced options.

Choosing a Message Format

When you compose a new message or click the Reply button, Outlook lets you choose from three distinct message formats. In some circumstances, it makes the choice of format for you, and you have to specifically override that decision. If you're picky about which message format you send out, pay attention to the fine details in this section, because the obvious options do not always behave as you expect.
