Part VIII: Appendixes > Performing a Custom Installation

Performing a Custom Installation

When you click Install Now or Upgrade Now to install Office XP, Setup uses the following default options:

  • Program files go in a default location, and you do not have an opportunity to specify a different location.

  • Setup removes your previous Office installation (if any) and replaces all installed programs, which migrates your personal settings and preferences to Office XP.

  • On systems running Internet Explorer 4.0 or earlier, the current default browser is replaced with Internet Explorer 5.01 with Service Pack 1. This option affects only users of Windows 95, Windows 98 (original release), and Windows NT 4.0, and then only if they have not already upgraded to any version of IE5. This step eliminates previous versions of Internet Explorer; however, it does not remove Netscape Navigator or other non-Microsoft browsers.

  • Setup installs a standard set of features. In the case of an upgrade, it automatically replaces all previously installed components with new versions, even if they're not part of the standard install.
