Chapter 32. Using Excel on the Web > Using Real-Time Data in Excel

Using Real-Time Data in Excel

Excel 2002 enables you to use real-time data from the Web. The RTD function enables you to tap into posted Web data that can be driven down into Excel. For example, say you keep your portfolio of stocks in a workbook and want to have the daily information posted into the workbook. You can do this by choosing Data, Import External Data, New Web Query. When the option is selected, the New Web Query dialog box appears with selection tags as shown in Figure 32.9. Click the tag to select it. If the desired Web page is not visible, you can type another location—either on the Internet or on your hard drive or network drive—on the Address line inside the New Web Query dialog box.

Use the Options dialog box, which you can access from the New Web Query dialog box, to create HTML or Rich Text formatting so that when the data is imported it brings formatting in with it.
