Transposing List Data with the Paste Special Command

Many times you'll either inherit a list of information or need to view it in a different layout. You can transpose lists from vertical to horizontal and vice versa with the Paste Special command. To transpose a table or list, follow these steps:

  1. Select and copy the data table or range you want to transpose.

  2. Select the cell in which you want to start the new transposed table.

  3. Choose Edit, Paste Special or click the drop-down arrow next to the Paste button on the Standard toolbar.

  4. Check Transpose and click OK or click Transpose on the Paste button's drop-down list. Notice the final transposed result in Figure 17.6.

Figure 17.6. The vertical table is now transposed in a horizontal format.
