Using the New AutoSum Feature

The new AutoSum feature has a drop-down menu that allows you to select the type of mathematical calculation you want instead of forcing the SUM function into a cell. You can now apply the most common functions with one click. To access the most common functions, click the down arrow on the right side of the AutoSum button. When applying analytical functions against rows or columns, use the AutoSum feature for a quick summary. Because AutoSum looks for the first blank cell as a stopping point, be careful to ensure that any blank cells that appear intermittently are filled with zero values. The most common functions appear in the AutoSum drop-down menu as shown in Figure 6.1: Sum, Average, Count, Max, and Min. You can also choose More Functions to launch the Insert Function command.

To use AutoSum for summing data, follow these steps:
