Applying and Drawing Borders and Shading

You can now draw borders with the new Draw Borders command from the Formatting toolbar. To access the Draw Borders command, select the Borders drop-down arrow. You can apply borders from the Format Cells dialog box under the Format menu or from the Formatting toolbar. Notice Figure 5.14, when the worksheet is filled with white to create a canvas affect, Excel plots the corners of each cell when the Draw Borders command is selected. When you select the Draw Borders command, the cursor turns into a pencil and allows you to apply borders one click at a time or by holding down the left mouse button, you can draw borders around several cells at once. Briefly, you turn off the borders by clicking the Draw Border button or by pressing the Esc key. Using borders and/or shading in worksheets is an effective method for enhancing and improving a worksheet's appearance and highlighting important information.
