Chapter 5. Formatting and Printing > Working with Styles

Working with Styles

Styles are collections of formats, designed to make several formatting changes at once through the application of the style to a cell or range. For example, the Normal style—the default style that's applied to all new Excel content—consists of specific font, alignment, border, pattern, and other settings. To work with styles, choose Format, Style to open the Style dialog box.

Editing the Default Styles

You can edit the default styles in the current workbook to apply the attributes you want. You might want cells formatted in Currency style to have a different background color, for example, so that they're more noticeable (or less). Changes to styles apply in the current workbook only.
