You can add a header or footer to a document in any view. To add a header or footer, follow these steps:
Select View, Header and Footer. You are temporarily switched to the Print Layout mode and placed in the header area of the document (see Figure 13.1). The regular text area is dimmed and unavailable while you work in the header or footer box.
Type your text into the header area. If you want to create a footer, click the Switch Between Header and Footer button on the Header and Footer toolbar, which is also available in the document window.
You can add a page number, the current date, the current time, and other elements using the appropriate buttons on the Header and Footer toolbar (see Table 13.1).
In cases where you need to align or format the text, use the appropriate buttons on the Word Formatting toolbar (while in the header/footer areas) as you would for text on the document page.
