Using Newsgroups

When you install Internet Explorer on a computer, Microsoft Outlook Express, an e-mail client and a newsreader, is also installed. And even though you probably use Microsoft Outlook as your e-mail program, Outlook Express can still be used to access newsgroups on the Internet (which Outlook cannot do). Newsgroups are a large collection of discussion groups held on news servers around the world. A particular newsgroup is much like a bulletin board; you can read messages posted there and post your own. Newsgroups cover information from current events to software, hobbies, pets, and other personal interests.

New Term

Newsgroup An Internet online bulletin board that allows users to post and read messages. Newsgroups are part of Usenet, which is a consortium of Internet news servers that enable users (such as you) to download and post messages.
