Choosing the Task Type

Suppose that you add a task to the project whose duration must remain fixed, such as a conference or a meeting. You wouldn't want Project to change the duration as you change resource assignments for that task. Alternatively, you might want to edit an assignment to a task, and just for this particular change, you don't want Project to change the duration as it normally would. As you will see in this section, you can select the appropriate task type to keep Project from recalculating either Duration, Work, or Units as you change resource assignments.

By selecting a task type, you choose how you want Project to calculate changes in the task assignment schedule as it keeps the resource work formula in balance. You can leave the task type as a permanent attribute of the task, but you can also change the task type temporarily at any time to control how Project treats a particular change in one of the work equation variables.
