Chapter 3. Setting Up a New Project Docu... > Selecting the Environment Options

Selecting the Environment Options

There are many assumptions Microsoft Project makes regarding projects. Most of these assumptions are found in the Options dialog box. The options are divided into two types: global and file specific. You can change these operating characteristics of Microsoft Project to suit your needs by choosing Tools, O ptions. Microsoft Project displays the Options dialog box (see Figure 3.10). The options are conveniently organized into categories on separate tabbed pages.

Most of the settings in the Options dialog box affect the way you view all projects, and are referred to as global options. Changes made to global options affect projects already created, the current project you are working on, and any future projects you create. For example, changing the setting for the way dates are displayed affects all projects, including those you originally created with a different date format. This format remains in effect for all projects until you change the setting again.
