Defining a Project

Organizations and companies approach the required work to be performed from two distinct viewpoints. Their efforts generally involve either the management of the operations of the company, or project-related activities, which are distinct efforts to fulfill strategic initiatives and to further the objects or strategic mission. Although there are numerous characteristics shared between the two, including work being performed by associates usually limited in their available time, there are unmistakable differences. A project is usually defined as "a temporary endeavor undertaken to create or enhance a unique product, service, or system" (see the PMBOK Guide, p. 4).
