Understanding How Resource Overallocations Occur

A resource is overallocated when assigned to work more hours during a given time period than the resource has available for work on the project. The number of hours that the resource has available for the project during any given time period is determined by two values that you define :

  • The units of the resource that are available during the time period. You define time periods and units in the Resource Availability table on the General tab of the Resource Information dialog box.

  • The number of working time hours the resource has for the time period in the resource calendar. You define working time on the Working Time tab of the Resource Information dialog box.
