Chapter 23. Customizing Views, Tables, F... > Organizing Views in Project Files

Organizing Views in Project Files

All the customized changes you make to the views—whether through defining views, tables, filters, or format specifications—are saved as part of the current project file. However, you can choose to make these customized views, tables, and filters available to other project files or to all projects. When they are available to all projects, the view definitions are stored in a global template. In Microsoft Project, this file is GLOBAL.MPT.

When you start Microsoft Project, GLOBAL.MPT loads with the project file. When you exit Project, all changes made to the views are saved only with the project file. Customized views created for one project file are not directly available to other project files. If you save the view data to the global file, however, these customized views can be made available across all project files that are tied to that global file.
