Creating Custom Groups

Grouping tasks or resources is yet another way to display project data to meet your needs. In addition to sorting lists and filtering tasks for a narrow focus, grouping offers more control over displays and printouts. A key advantage to organizing tasks in groups is the ability to display subtotals for numeric data in the groups.

Project 2000 includes a number of predefined group definitions. Please read the section "Grouping the Task and Resource Lists" in Chapter 12, "Reviewing the Project Plan," for a description of groups and their application. This section focuses on creating custom groups to meet your specific needs. The method for creating a custom group is very similar to creating a custom filter; the logic behind grouping is very similar to sorting.
