Chapter 5. Creating a Task List > Understanding the Fields in the Task Table

Understanding the Fields in the Task Table

Before you start creating your list of tasks, you should understand the columns you see in the Gantt Chart because Project fills in default values for them as you enter task names.

In the default version of the task table, you see four columns or fields (ID, Indicators, Task Name, and Duration) and these are the fields covered in this chapter. There are additional fields that you can scroll into view (Start, Finish, Predecessors, and Resource Names), but those are covered in later chapters. You can view these additional fields by using the horizontal scrollbar at the bottom of the task table. Alternatively, you can use the mouse to drag to the right the vertical divider bar that divides the table and the timescale. This displays more of the task table and less of the timescale.
