Troubleshooting

You're unlikely to have much trouble with templates. The only problem I recall people having is when Outlook can't find a template. The most likely reasons for this are if you forget to save a template you've created as an Outlook template, or if you save it in the wrong folder. When you have finished creating an Outlook item that you want to use as a template, choose File, Save As to display the Save As dialog box. There, you must open the drop-down Save as Type list and select Outlook Template. If you don't, the file will be saved as a text file. Outlook won't subsequently display the file in the list of templates, so you won't be able to use it.

As far as I know, there's no way to convert the file you saved as a text file to a template file. That's why, previously in this chapter, I recommended that you save a new template as an Outlook item until you're certain the template has been properly saved and is available to be used.
