Using Server-Based Rules

Chapter 22, "Creating and Using Rules," introduced you to rules that can process incoming and outgoing messages automatically. That chapter focused on rules that run on your computer and are only active when your computer is turned on and Outlook is running.

If you use Outlook as a client for Exchange, you can also set up rules that run on the server—rules that operate whether or not your computer is turned on providing, of course, the server is up and running.
